Georgian Association of Refrigerating, Cryogenic and Air-conditioning Engineers (GARCAE) were established in 1999 according to the recommendations of the Montreal Protocol. The GARCAE is non-government, non-profit, non-commercial organization which brings together scientists and technicians, importers of refrigerants and service companies, end-users in the RAC and Heat pump sector. Furthermore, it helps setting up links among public and private sectors in order to promote new internationally accepted standards, practices and guidelines in mentioned sector. In this respect the Association is a unique organization in Georgia.

Around today the number of members of association all over the country exceeds 200 including collective members. The main objective of activities of the GARCAE is collaboration on working out decisions, recommendations and statutory acts connected with protection of the Ozone layer, Global Warming and other environmental problems and realization of them in the RAC and Heat pump field.

 

Since its establishment the GARCAE has played key role in implementation of the following projects:

  • Implementation of a national programme for recovery and recycling of refrigerants, 1999 (implementing agency – UNDP);
  • Training programme on Good Practices in Refrigeration, 2000-2001 (UNEP) ;
  • Halon Banking Management Programme, 2006-2007 (UNIDO);
  • Development of Code of Practice in Refrigeration and Heat pumps, 2007 (UNDP);
  • Preparation of the investment component of Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) Phase out Management Plan, 2010 (UNDP).

At the same time the GARCAE has always paid the great attention to strengthening relations between the similar international organizations. It was one of the initiators of creation of a network of RAC associations of the East European and Central Asian (ECA) countries.
